Van Helsing (2004)

This is an okay movie. In 1887 Transylvania, Doctor Frankenstein brings to life his Monster with the aid of his assistant Igor and Count Dracula (Richard Roxburgh). Dracula plans to use the monster to bring his undead children to life. The next year, the Knights of the Holy Order, stationed at the Vatican, dispatch Gabriel Van Helsing (Hugh Jackman) to kill Dracula. He is also tasked with protecting the last two members of the Valerious family, who made a pact with Dracula nine generations ago. Van Helsing is joined by Carl, a friar who provides support and weapons.

The film is an homage and tribute to the monster films from the 1930s and 1940s. The main character was inspired by Abraham Van Helsing from Irish author Bram Stoker's novel Dracula. There is an animated film prequel called Van Helsing: The London Assignment.
