In the Bedroom (2001)

This is an okay movie. Frank is a young man who plans to attend college for architecture, and is dating a woman a few years older than him with two children. She is separated from her violent husband. Frank is encouraged by his parents to leave the woman because of all the baggage in the relationship, but he refuses to do so. Her ex comes over to her house one night and after getting into an argument, shoots her new boyfriend. Frank’s parents are distraught and are told that the outcome of the trial is uncertain.

The film is based on the 1979 short story Killings written by Andre Dubus. It went on to become the highest grossing film that never reached the top 10 on the weekly charts. It was also the second most successful film this decade to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival (only behind Napoleon Dynamite). The title is in reference to a lobster trap.
