The Pelican Brief (1993)

This is a solid movie. After two Supreme Court justices are assassinated, law student Darby Shaw (Julia Roberts) realizes the only connection between the men are their rulings on the environment. She writes a legal brief explaining her theory that greed is involved and shows it to her law professor lover. He gives a copy of the paper to his friend in the FBI and then dies in a car bomb. She realizes that her idea must be accurate and reaches out to reporter Gray Grantham (Denzel Washington).

The film is based on the 1992 thriller written by John Grisham.
