The Bluest Eyes

This is an okay book written by Toni Morrison. Eleven-year-old Pecola Breedlove suffers from a constant tirade of painful insults by both her black and white schoolmates, who find her ugly. More than anything, she yearns for the adoration all the blond-haired, blue-eyed white children receive. Pecola wishes she had the bluest eyes of all, a change that would finally make her attractive. And her life is about to change, but in a devastating way she never imagined and because of someone close to her that she should be safe with.

This was Morrison’s first novel. The book has been controversial due to subject matter involving incest and child abuse.
