The Untouchables (1987)

This is an imperfect-but-creditable movie based on true events. Eliot Ness (Kevin Costner) is a federal agent sent to Chicago during the Prohibition Era, when corruption in the local police department is rampant. His mission is to prevent Capone’s bootlegging operation and charge him with a crime, but he is not taken seriously in the task. One night while walking, he meets a trusting patrolman (Sean Connery) who is willing to use unconventional methods to stop the mob.

It is based on the television series that ran on ABC from 1959 to 1963 and was also influenced by the autobiography from Eliot Ness. He was married three times and had one adopted son. He died in 1957 following a heart attack at the age of 54. Al Capone was in prison for 7 1/2 years and died in 1947. Alcohol was legalized again in 1933. Connery received the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the film. He was paid with a 10 percent share of the sales.
